This patriotic quintet presents a varied and colorful program of virtuoso chamber music for winds, featuring repertoire ranging from the late 18th century courts of Europe to the contemporary masters of the 20th century. The quintet features Staff Sgt. Briana Lehman on bassoon, Specialist First Class Matthew Smith on horn Staff Sgt. Torin Olsen on flute, Staff Sgt. Natalie Wren on oboe and Staff Sergeant Sam Ross on clarinet.
The group will perform Henry Fillmore's Circus Bee (1908), Jacques Ibert's Trois Pièces Brèves (1930), a selection of Latin American folk music, as well as pieces by Dvorák, Hindemith and Machala. This ensemble is comprised of players from within the West Point Concert Band and carries on the great tradition of woodwind playing that has existed at West Point since 1815.
The members of the quintet are committed to bringing a wide variety of musical styles to their programs, including turn-of-the-century waltzes, popular music and educational works like Peter and the Wolf. The Academy Wind Quintet performs music for official military functions, social occasions, formal concerts, public service, and educational youth clinics and concerts.
