Theis was a second selectman of Greenwich and longtime enthusiast of the sport of weightlifting and supporter of powerlifting events at the Greenwich YMCA.

This non-sanctioned competition harkens back to the bench press meets of the 1980s that featured competitive lifters from the tri-state area and Theis as master of ceremonies.

The event is sponsored by the Greenwich YMCA and organized by Jim and Dave Micik, who were inducted into the 2015 Connecticut State Powerlifting Hall of Fame.

Attendance is free for spectators. Male and female lifters may register to compete the day of the meet. There will be customized awards for all lifters.

The competition will take place at the beach area and begin at 11 a.m.
