GREENWICH, Conn. The hawks will be taking flight next week, and Greenwich Audubon is inviting all to attend the annual HawkWatch Festival.
Its the 14th time the nature sanctuary has held its two-day festival to watch the hawk migration that passes over the area. Visitors to the Audubon from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 22 to 23 also will be able to take part in the Green Bazaar, which will feature green vendors exhibiting their wares.
On both days, there will be two "Birds of Prey" shows at 1 and 3 p.m. and a special rehabilitated raptor release by Wildlife in Crisis at 4 p.m.
There will be nature-themed games and kid-friendly activities such as mini-golf with Jungle Jim. Families are invited to join the Honey Harvest and help spin honey from the combs in the Red Barn. Audubon will hold a hike to Indian Spring Pond to teach about frogs and the tiny creatures that call it home.
Food and refreshments from Will Morton's Rotisserie, Cafe Bon, Annie Bananie's Ice Cream and others will be available for purchase.
The event will take place rain or shine, and everyone is invited. Children under 3 are free, members are $7 per person and nonmembers are $10 per person.
