Professor Discusses Connecticut’s Coastal Resilience In Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Jennifer Mattei, of Sacred Heart University, will discuss Connecticut’s coastal resilience, examining strategies to deal with sea-level rise and storm surge in coastal communities Sunday, March 6 at the Innis Arden Cottage in Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich.

The discussion will explore the work of Mattei’s team, who installed living shorelines to provide erosion control while restoring or enhancing natural shoreline habitats as an alternative to hard infrastructure projects in adapting to climate change.

Her project is being tested in Stratford to see if it helps to prevent erosion along the shore where newly planted salt marsh vegetation needs a chance to grow. The lecture is part of the Fred Elser First Sunday Science at the Seaside Center events sponsored by the Bruce Museum and Greenwich Shellfish Commission.

The afternoon event also will include family activities and marine tank viewing from 1:30-4 p.m. The program is free and no registration is required. For additional information, call 203-413-6756.
