Trinity College student Cameron Driscoll and Greenwich High School junior Leah Common received their awards recently at the museum’s annual volunteer awards lunch.
Both were active participants in summer programs at the Seaside Center in Greenwich Point Park, sharing their knowledge of marine life and the environment of Long Island Sound. Leah also volunteered at the main museum facility.
This prestigious national honor recognizes the service of volunteers in different age and hour categories, with young adults who volunteer more than 250 hours earning the gold distinction. This marks the 20th Gold Presidential Award that has been given by the Bruce Museum, which had to undergo a review process to administer the President’s Volunteer Service Award to volunteers.
The museum’s volunteer awards lunch recognizes the efforts of all the museum’s more than 350 volunteers and singles out a few for special recognition.
Executive Director Peter Sutton presented the Volunteer of the Year Director’s Award to Nicole Reynolds and Aundrea Amine, for their enthusiastic work promoting the museum. Lynn Garelick was named Docent of the Year. Additional department awards went to Mary Melvin, development; Fred Stark, exhibitions; Angelo Avitabile, marketing and communications; and Peggy Saunders, museum store.
