Greenwich Hospital Hosts Take Our Daughters, Sons To Work Day

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich Hospital  welcomed nearly 100 children to its fourth "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" on Thursday, April 24.

Employees’ children, ages 5 to 18, got a hands-on opportunity to experience healthcare work in a hospital setting.

Activities included visits to the simulation lab, where kids learned how to perform CPR; the physical medicine department., where they maneuvered an obstacle course on crutches and in wheelchairs; and the medical education department for a game of “medical jeopardy.”

There were demonstrations by mother/baby, community health, nuclear medicine and the emergency departments, as well as behind-the-scene tours of the physical plant and information systems.

Greenwich Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) and the Greenwich Police SWAT and canine units were also on hand. During the event, younger visitors created get-well cards for patients.

“This is a tremendous family experience for our employees,” said Melissa Turner, senior VP of human resources for Greenwich and Bridgeport Hospitals. “We often get thank you notes from the kids saying that they someday plan to pursue healthcare careers specifically because of the opportunities they learned about during our day together.”
