Story Barn is a biannual favorite, an entertaining twist on oral history, where a given theme is explored through personal stories. As in life, these thought-provoking tales run the gamut from humorous to heartwarming, wistful to "wow-some." This time around, the topic will be "Any Port in a Storm," selected to connect with the society's newest exhibition "Close to the Wind: Our Maritime History," opening March 30.

Storytellers are welcome to creatively interpret the given theme with only two caveats: stories must be true and they must be told within a 5- to 10-minute time frame. No experience is needed; an interesting yarn and a positive attitude are the only requirements, and if you're game but would like to polish your narrative, a practice session with emcee Bonnie Levison is offered prior to the program. Story Barn is modeled on a format developed by The Moth, where storytellers offer personal insights into the human condition by sharing engaging stories, lessons learned and moments of self-discovery via story slams, live performances, radio broadcasts and workshops.

Levison is a storytelling coach for The Moth and has led Story Barn at the Greenwich Historical Society since 2009. A former marketing executive at Young and Rubicam, as well as NBC, she co-founded The Nantucket Comedy Festival in 2008 and produces a variety of comedy shows. "Any Port in a Storm" will take place in an informal, cabaret-like setting, and wine, beer and light snacks will be served. If you would like to share a story, please contact Anna Greco at: agreco@greenwichhistory.org or call 203-869-6899, Ext. 31.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; performance begins at 8 p.m. Ticket price is $15 for members; $20 for non-members, includes entry to "Close to the Wind: Our Maritime History" at the Storehouse Gallery from 7 p.m. until the performance begins. To attend the show, visit this website or call 203-869-6899, Ext. 10. Reserve early because space is limited.
