Niles will lead a discussion, “My Perspective on Foreign Affairs Today,” and will discuss the experience and insights he gained during 36 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, and subsequently in international relations, to try to unravel the causes and direction of the many foreign challenges facing the U.S. today.
Two years ago, he spoke to RMA about the challenges of Russia, which today require even more explication.
A resident of Stamford, Niles served as ambassador to Canada (1985-89), ambassador to the European Union (1989-91), assistant secretary of state for Europe and Canada (1991-93) and ambassador to Greece (1993-97). He has since served as president and vice chairman of the U.S. Council for International Business, which advances the global interests of American business both at home and abroad, promoting an open system of world trade, finance and investment. He is also a member of the American Academy of Diplomacy.
The Greenwich Retired Men’s Association offers a free program every Wednesday that is open to the public, both men and women; no reservations are required.
