The Pineapple Classic is a Hawaiian-themed 5K obstacle course with a post-race luau including live entertainment, food and a beer garden sponsored by Stamford's Half-Full Brewery. Participants range from serious competitors to families and walkers. Individuals and teams run in waves spaced 15 minutes apart, and anyone eight years of age and older can participate. Prizes are awarded for the fastest racers, highest fundraisers and best costumes.
To date, the Pineapple Classic 5K has raised over $500,000, with all proceeds benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This year, the Pineapple Classic Foundation is directing its grants to specific near-term, impactful projects at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as City of Hope and Educating Haiti.
These include:
- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s landmark Beat AML Master Clinical Trial
- Innovative research at City of Hope’s Hematological Malignancy and Stem Cell Transplantation Institute
- Educating Haiti’s Construction of a K-12 school in St. Marc, Haiti with a classroom honoring Old Greenwich Elementary School teacher, Elizabeth Benn, who died after a prolonged battle with Leukemia.
Pineapple Classic 5K participants choose the charitable project for which they run and raise funds. 100 percent of the funds raised by the Pineapple Classic 5K participants will go directly to their selected charitable projects.
