The blaze began just before 4 a.m. on Cudlipp Street. An adult and four kids younger than six were jolted awake by fire alarms, prompting firefighters to respond to the under-construction home in the Rowayton area of the town.

Nearly 30 firefighters arrived at the scene and had the fire under control quickly. However, Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Maggio said the outcome could have been much worse.

Thankfully, the home was being renovated, and plastic sheeting hung throughout prevented smoke and flames from spreading through the entire house, firefighters said.

That kept the home habitable following the fire.

Firefighters urged residents to check their smoke alarms regularly to ensure they are working properly, emphasizing the importance of early detection in preventing devastating outcomes.

The Rowayton Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
