The incident occurred in New Haven County around 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12 in the area of 168 Jersey St., in Waterbury.
Waterbury police responded to the area after receiving reports of a vehicle that crashed into a tree, said Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police.
Bessette said officers found Jermiyiah Pegues, age 23, of Waterbury, and her two 3-year-old girls in the vehicle.
Pegues was transported to Waterbury Hospital where she died a short time later, Bessette said.
The girls were evaluated at the hospital for minor injuries and released, he added.
This accident is under investigation by the Waterbury Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit.
