After clear skies and a high temperature of about 80 degrees on Wednesday, clouds will begin to roll in overnight.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will move through the area mid-day on Thursday before partially clearing in the later afternoon with a high of 88 degrees. The chance of rain is 30 percent.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday across much of Connecticut.  The alert is due to a high level of ozone, or smog pollution.

Ozone in the region may approach or exceed healthy levels. It can irritate the lungs and breathing passages, increase susceptibility to respiratory infections and reduces the ability to exercise. The effects are more severe in children, the elderly and people with asthma and other respiratory ailments.

The sun will return on Friday with a high of 82, but the threat of wet weather and storms will return for the weekend.
