The Fairfield County incident happened on Tuesday, June 18 in the town of New Canaan. Just after midnight, 40-year-old Carlos Manuel Fernandez was driving north on White Oak Shade Road when he reportedly accelerated through a stop sign near the intersection at Gerdes Road. Walter Herbert Brown, age 20, of New Canaan was arrested on Saturday, June 24 following the crash on White Oak Shade Road in New Canaan. According to New Canaan Police Lt. Marc J. DeFelice, officers responded to the area for a report of a crash and found Brown had struck a rock wall and utility pole causing minor damage. Jewelry, Handbags Stolen From Fairfield County Home, Police Say Police have asked the public for information after handbags and jewelry were stolen from a Fairfield County home. The New Canaan Police Department said authorities received a report of a burglary at a home on White Oak Shade Road at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21. A resident reportedly arrived home and saw that the patio door in the back of the home was broken. Police said the alarm system wasn't activated at the home, and the patio door wasn't alarmed. 40 Residential Mailboxes Entered In New Canaan, Police Say Police in Fairfield County issued an alert after dozens of residential mailboxes were found entered by unknown suspects. An officer from the New Canaan Police Department responded to White Oak Shade Road at approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, where there was a report of a mailbox that had been entered. Upon arrival, police said that officers found 14 residential mailboxes open on Main Street, and 25 open on White Oak Shade Road. It is believed that they had been entered overnight. Speeding Stop Leads To DUI Charge For Darien Teen, New Canaan Police Say A speeding stop in the area led to the arrest of a teenager who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, police said. Darien resident Douglas James Werner, 19, was stopped by a New Canaan Police officer shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, for allegedly speeding in a posted 25 mph zone on Farm Road near the intersection of White Oak Shade Road. According to police, during the subsequent traffic stop, the officer “detected signs of impairment” in Werner, and he proceeded to fail Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Missing New Canaan Man Found Safe In Norwalk Update: The 86-year-old man who went missing Wednesday afternoon has been located Wednesday evening in Norwalk and is safe, New Canaan Police report. Earlier report: An alert has been issued by the New Canaan Police Department following the disappearance of an 86-year-old man who went missing from an adult day care program. Graham Bryan, who was at Waveny Care Center, made comments to the staff stating that he knows his way home, New Canaan Police said.
