Connecticut’s top energy provider is warning residents to protect themselves against scammers. Eversource Energy is warning its customers of the increased number of scams involving utility services that often come with the holiday season. Opportunistic fraudsters have been making the rounds in Fairfield County, posing as utility workers threatening to turn the lights off at local businesses. The Shelton Police Department issued an alert, cautioning that local businesses have recently been targeted by scammers calling and pretending to be from United Illuminating. Eversource is cautioning its customers to be aware of a scam that is making the round in the region where opportunistic fraudsters attempt to discern personal information. The utility company has issued an alert warning that it has received several reports of people who are receiving calls from scammers claiming to be employees with Eversource who offer a discount on their bill for paying on time for the last six months.
