Former CT Physician Pays $300K To Settle False Claims Act Allegations A former physician in Connecticut has reached an agreement with the federal government to pay $300,000 for issuing and approving invalid prescriptions. Philippe Chain agreed to the civil settlement to resolve the allegations that he violated the False Claims Act, U.S. Attorney John Durham said. Chain, who currently has a practice in Florida, previously practiced medicine in Connecticut. He also worked for CallMD, a telemedicine company in Nevada that involved him prescribing compound medications to TRICARE beneficiaries. Father, Son Sentenced For Making Fraudulent Titanium Sales To CT Defense Subcontractor A father and son team have been sentenced after admitting to fraudulently selling titanium to a Connecticut defense subcontractor in Bridgeport federal court. John J. Palie, Jr., 64, of Tiverton, Rhode Island was sentenced to 10 months in prison and two years of supervised release, and his son, John J. Palie III, 43, of Plymouth, Massachusetts was sentenced to six months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. Palie Jr. must also pay a $10,000 fine. Bridgeport PD Adds K9 For Bomb Detection The City of Bridgeport Police Department has added a new tool to help fight crime, Dennis, an explosive detective K-9 dog. The department was able to obtain Dennis, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, through a donation from Sonitrol Verified Security Systems in memory of its founder, Dennis F. Hickey. Hickey was a member of the Bridgeport business community for five decades. He founded Sonitrol Security Systems with his wife, Joan Hickey in 1973.
