Spring Ahead, But Stay Alert: State DOT Issues Daylight Saving Time Driving Advisory
Clocks will “spring ahead” an hour this weekend during Daylight Saving Time, and the Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be cautious when adjusting to the time change. “Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend,” the DOT posted in a statement. “While you adjust to the time change, be especially careful of driving. Get enough sleep, stay alert and if you feel drowsy, don't drive.” Clocks will switch over at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, at which points clocks will be adjusted to 3 a.m. local time. Did You Remember To Spring Forward For Daylight Saving Time?
Did you remember to change your clock? Daylight Saving Time went into effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, marking its 100th year. Local officials also recommend checking and changing batteries on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Daylight Saving began during World War I and used again during World War II as an energy saving initiative. It didn't become a (mostly) nationwide event until the Uniform Time Act of 1966.
