19: New Study Shows Effectiveness Of Different Types Of Masks
Wearing masks makes a big difference when it comes to preventing COVID-19 infection, and which type of mask you wear also matters, according to a brand-new study. "Consistent use of a face mask or respirator in indoor public settings was associated with lower odds of a positive SARS-CoV-2 test result (adjusted odds ratio = 0.44)," the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said. "Use of respirators with higher filtration capacity was associated with the most protection, compared with no mask use." The CDC has just announced these findings: Those who wear N95 and KN95 masks are 8…

19: Study Reveals Which Masks Are Most Effective Battling Virus
A new study found that the N95 and KN95 masks are significantly more effective at preventing airborne transmission of COVID-19 than cloth or surgical facemasks. Experiments for the study were conducted by the Fluid Mechanics Research Laboratory at the University of Waterloo. The study was published online in July. Researchers reported that all the masks tested in the study provided protection in the immediate vicinity of the wearer "primarily through the redirection and reduction of expiratory momentum." However, the study found that leakages caused decreases in mask efficacy. …

19: CDC Outlines Mask Practices That Can Cut Transmission 96.5 Percent
The CDC has laid out new guidance on mask-wearing that could help dramatically curtail the spread of COVID-19. According to health officials, wearing any mask will reduce the risk of contracting or spreading the virus, but more tightly fitted surgical masks, or double-masking can vastly improve protection for both the wearer and others. New research found that transmission of the virus can be reduced by up to 96.5 percent if tightly-fitted surgical masks or a combination of fitted surgical masks with a cloth covering are worn, officials said. Rochelle Walensky, the new director of the CDC…

19: New Study Reveals Which Face Masks Are Best, Worst At Blocking Droplets
Not all face masks and coverings are as effective at blocking respiratory droplets when we talk, cough and sneeze, according to a brand-new study. Research from Duke University scientists tested the efficiency of 14 types of face coverings being used during the COVID-19 pandemic. The N95, used by medical staff, is the most effective, the study found. (Mask No. 14 in image above.) Three-layer surgical masks also rated high, along with cotton-polypropylene masks. (Mask No. 1 in image above.) Fleece masks and bandannas offer little protection and may be no different than using no mask a…
