Woman Dies From Injuries After Being Struck By Tractor-Trailer In Fairfield County
A woman whose vehicle became disabled on I-84 in Fairfield County before she was struck by a tractor-trailer has died from her injuries. Hartford resident Samantha Figueroa, age 22, was driving her Mercury Grand Marquis LS on the Rochambeau Bridge on I-84 at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 when it became disabled in Newtown, Connecticut State Police said. A hearing has been scheduled as lawmakers in Connecticut get ready for a vote on proposed tolls on state highways, including a gantry on a mile-long stretch of I-684 that runs through Greenwich. Many New Yorkers are miffed at Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont’s proposal to install toll gantries on I-684, which would force some residents to have to pay a toll without traveling to or from the state. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont has introduced his new plan for statewide tolls, including several in Fairfield County. Under the new proposal, tollbooths would be installed on several major highways, interstates, and bridges. In Fairfield County, Lamont is calling for tolls in Newtown at the Rochambeau Bridge; in Stamford on I-95 near the Metro-North railroad; Westport on I-95 at the Saugatuck River Bridge and in Norwalk on the Merritt Parkway. Area Motorcyclist Killed In I-84 Crash
A 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash on I-84 on Thursday. The crash occurred around 7:01 a.m. at the Rochambeau Bridge in Southbury, when William Jasmin of Danbury lost control of his motorcycle, according to Connecticut State Police. After losing control, the motorcycle struck the concrete bridge rail off the right side of the roadway, state police said. Jasmin was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the right lane near the shoulder, state police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
