Metro-North May Raise Parking Fees At Some Stations
Parking may be getting a bit costlier for Metro-North riders. The MTA is reviewing a proposal to increase fees at 25 station parking facilities that are controlled by the railroad. It would impact riders east of the Hudson River, including the Harlem, Hudson and New Haven lines. Permit holders for 16-hour parking would pay an average of $42.75 annually, approximately 12 cents a day. Customers who use daily meters will pay an average of $14.17 more monthly, with the meters increasing by 50 to 75 cents for 16-hour parking. The cost per month for having a second vehicle on the permit will go u…

Metro-North Rate Hike Takes Effect
The nearly four-percent rate increase approved by MTA officials in February went into effect on Easter Sunday, April 21. Commuters who purchase a monthly ticket, now more than $460, to use the Hudson line from Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Beacon will see no increase either. Monthly and weekly ticket buyers will see an increase of no more than 3.85 percent and there will be no increase for weekly tickets of $147 or more. The hikes were initially expected to take effect in March, but the MTA was delayed. This marks the seventh price increase since 2008. Metro-North has also moved its mornin…

Metro-North Fare Hikes Set To Take Effect
Some Metro-North riders will see their trips becoming more expensive as an announced MTA toll and fare increase takes effect on Sunday. A near 4 percent fare hike was approved by MTA officials earlier this year, though it won’t impact rides west of the Hudson on the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines. Those riders were reportedly spared due to a year fraught with disabled and canceled trains in the Hudson Valley. The new fares will kick in on Sunday, April 21. Commuters who purchase a monthly ticket, now more than $460, to use the Hudson line from Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Beacon wi…

Fear not, Metro-North and Amtrak riders, it's just a drill. A commuter alert was put in effect on Wednesday morning for Metro-North and Amtrak riders, as law enforcement agencies conduct anti-terror training activities at many stations in the area. Commuters reported seeing police canines near a station on the New Haven line Wednesday morning. In total, 10 train stations will see security exercises during the morning commute, as members of local, state, MTA and Amtrak police departments join the Division of Homeland Security for the training. Training activities are set to be conducted a…

Metro-North Issues St. Patrick’s Day Booze Ban
Irish eyes will be smiling throughout the area during St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, though not as much on any Metro-North Railroad lines, where booze is banned on one of the busiest drinking days of the year. Alcohol will be banned on St. Patrick’s Day, Metro-North announced this week, marking one of the few days of the year where they prohibit consumption of alcohol, including New Year’s Eve and SantaCon in December. “Alcoholic beverages will not be permitted on trains, platforms, or stations,” according to Metro-North. “Any alcoholic beverage observed or found will be confiscated by MTA …
