Cases of a new COVID-19 variant are on the rise nationally as the spread of the virus overall is climbing, according to brand-new data from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Nationwide Alert: Flesh-Eating Bacteria Infections Pose Growing Threat, CDC Warns
A new nationwide health advisory has been issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as cases of potentially fatal flesh-eating bacteria continue to climb. Vibrio vulnificus infections have killed at least 13 people on the Eastern Seaboard this year and cause an estimated 80,000 illnesses annually in the United States. Most people get infected with Vibrio by eating raw or undercooked shellfish, particularly oysters, the CDC said in the advisory which was issued on Friday, Sept. 1. Not Over Yet: New Round Of Storms On Track For Region Amid Soaring Temps
The arrival of dramatically warmer air will result in the first heat wave of the summer in much of the region, and amid the rise in temperatures will be the potential for a brand-new round of severe thunderstorms later in the week. The time frame for the latest storm is on Thursday, July 21 from the mid-afternoon to the early evening, according to the National Weather Service. (See the image above.) Storms With Drenching Rain, Gusty Winds Will Bring Some Relief From Hot, Sticky Stretch
A round of heavy thunderstorms will sweep through the region bringing some relief from the hot and sticky stretch of days by ushering in a more comfortable air mass from Canada. But that won't happen until after a couple more hazy, humid days. A Heat Advisory that goes into effect late Monday morning, July 27 lasts through 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. Hot Stuff: Prolonged Period Of Dangerous Heat, Humidity Hits Area
A prolonged period of dangerous heat and humidity will last through the July 4th holiday.The peak of the heat will come Sunday, July 1 with the heat index (combination of temperature and humidity) hitting as high as 108 in some parts of the area.
