Fairfield Warde's Alyson Leppla won the shot put and took second in the discus to lead athletes from Fairfield schools at Tuesday's Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference track and field championships at Danbury High School.
Warde's girls finished eighth with 47 points, and Ludlowe was 12th with 12 points. Danbury won with 162.5. In the boys meet, Ludlowe (40.5) was eighth and Warde (19) was 13th. Danbury won with 126 points.
Leppla won the shot put with a heave of 36 feet, 6½ inches. In the discus, her toss of 90 feet, 10 inches was second only to Brien McMahon's Kimberly McElveen, who threw 94 feet, 7 inches.
Other girls who picked up points for Warde were Rachel Maltz (eighth, long jump), Christina Fatse (sixth, javelin and sixth, shot put), Cate Allen (third, 1,600) and Jillian Tallent (fourth, 3200). Warde was seventh in the 4 x 800 with Lexi Hoadley, Jackie Wall, Tallent and Caroline Keough. The 4 x 100 took eighth with Sarah Collins, Victoria Edison, Blossom Jean-Jacques and Megan Overby. Girls who contributed points for Ludlowe included Sydney Kay (second, 100) and Heather Moriarty (fifth, 3,200).
Tyler Schwarz was fourth in the 100 and 200 and fifth in the high jump for Ludlowe, which compiled most of its points in field events. Other Falcon scorers included Ian Wolff (fifth, pole vault), John Grant (fourth, javelin), Thomas Hammons (fifth, triple jump), Michael Frasco (fifth, 1,600) and Will Galle (eight, 3,200). Ludlowe was also fifth in the 4 x 400 with Brendan Deely, Scott Sacci, Jack White and Andrew Fernandes.
Warde's boys were led by Harry Warnick, who finished second in the 3,200 in 9:51.62 and third in the 1,600. The Mustangs also finished fifth in the 4 x 800 relay with Warnick, Chris Barlett, Nick Gans and Connor O'Day. Complete results are available online.
