Warde Downs Ludlowe in Fairfield Baseball Battle

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — In their annual trip to Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Fairfield Warde clinched a state playoff berth Wednesday with an 8-2 drubbing of cross-town rival  Ludlowe. Pitching under the lights, Dan Warren struck out 11 in a complete-game effort for Warde, allowing just four Ludlowe hits.

Dario Pugliano provided the thunder on offense, driving in four of Warde's runs. Ludlowe's Mike Poudrier was the source of all the Falcons' scoring, driving in a pair.

Warde (8-3) travels to Staples on Monday for a 4 p.m. game. Ludlowe (5-5) has to bounce back quickly, as the Falcons host Stamford on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Kiwanis Field.
