Unbeaten Fairfield Prep Takes On Top-Ranked Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Prep and Hillhouse of New Haven, ranked No. 3 and No. 1 respectively in the latest poll by the New Haven Register, meet Tuesday in Fairfield in a mid-season showdown between state boys basketball powers.

Tip off at Alumni Hall at Fairfield University is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Jesuits are 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Connecticut Conference. Hillhouse is also 9-0 and 3-0.

Prep had an impressive 73-57 win last Tuesday over Career Magnet, the defending Class L champions. Senior Tim Butala scored 23 points to pace Prep. Paschal Chukwu, a 7-foot, 1-inch junior center, had 12 points,12 rebounds and five blocks. Ryan Murphy, a freshman, added 16 points.

Prep lost to HIllhouse last year, 60-47, in the semifinals of the Class LL tournament last year. The teams are scheduled to have a rematch on Feb. 1 in New Haven.
