Title Quest Ends for Prep Tennis Player

An enjoyable and unexpected run to the boys tennis State Open championship game ended in a tough defeat for Fairfield Prep's Ryan Carr on Tuesday at Hamden High School. Carr, a senior from Madison, lost 6-1, 6-2 to defending Open champion Dante Terenzio of Trinity Catholic (Stamford).

The State Open brings together the semifinalists from the four state classes (LL, L, M and S) for a tournament. Carr, who was the No. 2 singles player on Prep for most of the season, lost in the quarterfinals of the Class LL tournament, but was invited to the Open after other qualifiers withdrew. The Prep boys tennis team won its third consecutive Southern Connecticut Conference Title earlier this season.

Carr, a senior who will play tennis at UConn next season, told the Connecticut Post that Terenzio, who will attend another Big East school, Louisville, was a tough challenge. But Carr said he was happy to have simply made the finals, taking advantage of the opportunity given to him and will use it as he continues on in his tennis career.
