FAIRFIELD, Conn. Shane Gibson scored 21 points while Stamfords Chris Evans and Norwalks Evan Kelley also played well for Sacred Heart Thursday in a 68-55 win over Quinnipiac in a Northeast Conference men's basketball game.
Evans scored 11 points and had five rebounds for the Pioneers (5-3 overall, 1-0 Northeast Conference). Kelley scored four points in 28 minutes.
Evans scored seven straight points for Sacred Heart late in the first half for the Pioneers, extending their lead to 30-19 with just under three minutes to play. Evans also added three assists, two steals and a block.
Sacred Heart matched its best start in Division I competition. The Pioneers look to go to 2-0 in the Northeast Conference when they visit Central Connecticut Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
