FAIRFIELD, Conn. Shane Gibson scored 22 points and Stamfords Chris Evans added 16 as Sacred Heart University snapped a three-game losing streak Sunday with a 84-79 victory over Lafayette. Norwalks Evan Kelley added nine points for the Pioneers (6-6).
Gibson pulled in seven rebounds while Evans, a sophomore, had four rebounds and three assists. Stan Dulaire played a team-high 32 minutes coming off the bench and scored 15 points.
Gibson hit a key 3-pointer in the final minute to give Sacred Heart an 81-77 lead. After a Lafayette miss, he hit two free throws to help the Pioneers pull away down the stretch.
Sacred Heart returns to action Dec. 19 at Notre Dame. That matchup kicks off a three-game road trip for the Pioneers, who will also play at Boston College (Dec. 21) and at New Hampshire (Dec. 29).
