FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The spring racing season is a few weeks away from hitting high gear, but runners can lace up their racing flats in two races of different lengths in Fairfield and New Canaan.
The Boston Blowout 30k race, or 18.6 miles, begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the Scandinavian Club in Fairfield. At 3 p.m., the Spring Equinox 8k, slightly less than 5 miles, begins at the Presbyterian Church on Oeneke Ridge Road in New Canaan.
The Boston Blowout race is one last tune-up for runners participating in the Boston Marathon, which will be April 16 beginning in Hopkinton, Mass. The fast, flat Boston Blowout course is termed about as easy as a 30km can be on the race website. There is also a Half-Blowout 15k. The field is limited to 150 runners.
People interested in running the Equinox Race can register at New Balance New Canaan on Saturday. This year marks the 33rd edition of the event, which was won last year by Daniel Lennox of Bedford, N.Y. Erica Merrill of Rowayton won the womens division.
