All Fairfield boys and girls in grades 1 to 8 can register until Dec. 1. Evaluations will be held in early December.

Last month, Fairfield Youth Lacrosse and Wakeman Boys & Girls Club made a joint announcement outlining a collaborative approach as the future of youth lacrosse programming in Fairfield. Under this new approach, FYL will provide a travel-based program and serve as the CONNY designated program (the statewide travel lacrosse association). Wakeman will provide an in-town house lacrosse program.

The goal is to provide the best lacrosse experience for all who are interested in participating in the fastest growing sport in America. “This is an exciting time for the sport of Lacrosse in Fairfield,” says FYL President Jeff Richard. “We can’t wait to get the spring season under way.”

Accessibility is key as players as early as first grade come to FYL to learn the fundamentals and stick work necessary to play the game. The organization employs a "First Grade Free Stick" program where the first 100 first grade boys and girls registered are given a free stick.

Coaching will again be an area of focus for the FYL program. A mix of technical and parent coaches will lead all travel teams this spring. Director of Coaching Development Jim Kuczo has coordinated a coaching program designed to provide a safe and fun learning environment for all players.

The goal of FYL is not only to increase the level of participation and skill level in the game of lacrosse but also to instill the values of good sportsmanship and team play.
