The Notre Dame-Fairfield boys basketball team took home the SWC hardware for the first time in school history. The Lancers led from wire-to-wire against Pomperaug in Thursday night's championship game played at Weston High School. Dan Upchurch was named tournament MVP as the Lancers (20-3) came away with a 61-52 victory.
Notre Dame used its high-speed style of play to wear down Pomperaug. The Lancers opened the first half on an 11-2 run and began the second half with a 9-0 run. Notre Dame's lead was never fewer than five points all night. Upchurch led the Lancers attack with 17 points, while Marcus Ortiz added 12.
Notre Dame-Fairfield was awarded the third-seed in the Class M state tournament. The Lancers host No. 30 Plainville on Monday at 7 p.m. in the first round.
