Ludlowe's McCaffrey Grabs Gatorade Honor

The key cog in Fairfield Ludlowe High School's run to the FCIAC and Class LL state girls volleyball finals is getting her due. Madison McCaffrey was named Connecticut Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year for the 2010-11 season. McCaffrey is the first player from Fairfield Ludlowe High School to receive the honor.

McCaffrey led the Falcons to their second straight Class LL state final, where they were defeated by FCIAC rival, Greenwich. McCaffrey had an incredible senior season, recording 503 kills, 471 digs, 107 service aces and 92 blocks.

The award honors athletes who are team leaders while maintaining excellence in the classroom and displaying exemplary character in their community. The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track and field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by ESPN RISE and the Gatorade high school sports leadership team, which work with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board of veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport.
