Jr. Olympic Softball Tourney Scheduled

Stratford will host two territorial Girls Junior Olympic Fast-Pitch Softball tournaments in 2012. The teams competing in the tournaments will include 12-and-under and 10-and-under squads. More than 40 teams will take part in the tournaments, which will be held at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field and other town fields.

Stratford Softball Tournament Inc. President Frank DeLuca made the announcement after returning from the Amateur Softball Association Conference held recently in Shreveport, La.

DeLuca credited the assistance of Territorial Junior Olympic Director Cliff LaRose during the bidding process. Several other states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia were seeking to host the tournaments.

Stratford Mayor John A. Harkins credited all those involved with bringing the tournaments to Stratford and praised the economic benefits that should be realized.

In preparation for the tournaments, Stratford Softball Tournament Inc. will help conduct a Territorial National Qualifier for the Girls Fast-Pitch 12-and-under teams in June.
