The Fairfield American team, which was eliminated from the World Series tournament in Williamsport, Pa., Thursday night, is coming back to town today and supporters want to give them a hero’s welcome.
Fans are asked to gather at Sherman Green at 3 p.m., the earliest the boys of summer are expected back to Fairfield.
The town is pulling out the stops with a bounce house, a dunk tank and DJ Marvin Parsons. U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and First Selectman Mike Tetreau will be among those cheering for the hometown boys.
Fairfield American was one of the final three teams in the United States bracket, losing to Texas 14-4 on Thursday. It was as far as any Fairfield team has ever gotten in World Series play.
“We need help showing them how proud we are of their accomplishments!” read a post on the team's Facebook page. “Bring your signs! Wear your Fairfield American gear! Cheer loudly! Make noise!”
