Fairfield's Chu Leads U.S. Hockey Team for Worlds

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield’s Julie Chu has been named captain for the U.S. Women’s National Hockey team that will compete in the International Women’s World Championship beginning Saturday in Burlington, Vt.

The tournament continues through April 14. Chu is a three-time Olympian and has played 211 games for the U.S. National team in a career that began in 1999.

Julie has been a true leader for this team on and off the ice," coach Katey Stone said in a release on the USA Hockey website. "She has a knack for relating to all ages. I am confident that Julie, along with [assistant captains] Jenny [Potter] and Kacey [Bellamy], will do a tremendous job of leading this team."

Team USA opens tournament play Saturday against Canada at 7 p.m.
