Fairfield Woman Skates for U.S. National Team

Fairfield's Julie Chu will play for the U.S. Women's National team when it begins play in the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's Championship. The tournament runs from April 16 to 25 in Zurich and Winterthur, Switzerland. Team USA will be looking to defend its back-to-back world titles from 2008 and 2009.

The U.S. squad was chosen after a 30-player selection camp in Ann Arbor, Mich., earlier this month.

Chu, 29, has played on three Olympic teams that have won medals. The 2002 and 2010 teams won silver medals, and the 2006 team captured a bronze. As a member of the U.S. Women's National Team, she has played in six International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's Championships and nine Four Nations Cups.

She also had a standout career at Harvard, finishing her career as Harvard's all-time assists leader with 196 and the NCAA leader with 284 points.
