Fairfield Teams Begin State Tournaments

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Prep’s boys soccer team is seeded ninth as the Southern Connecticut Conference champions look to make a run in the Class LL state tournament beginning Friday with a home game against No. 24 Crosby.

Prep (12-0-7) won the conference title with a 1-0 victory over Notre Dame of West Haven. It faces a tough road in the Class LL tournament, where it is in the same bracket as top-seeded Pomperaug. If Prep wins its first game, it would meet the winner of No. 8 Newtown vs. No. 25 Ridgefield on Monday. The complete Class LL boys soccer bracket is available online.

Fairfield Warde is seeded 26th in the boys Class L tournament and meets No. 7 Avon in Friday’s first-round game. The Class bracket is online.

State tournament action begins Thursday for field hockey teams. Fairfield Ludlowe, seeded 16th, hosts No. 17 South Windsor at 5:30 p.m. in a qualifying round game. No. 19 Fairfield Warde (5-7-3) travels to play No. 14 Westhill at 2 p.m. in another qualifying round game.

In girls soccer, No. 17 Fairfield Warde (11-6-2)) travels Thursday to play at league rival and No. 16 seed Darien (9-4-3). The Mustangs lost in the conference championship game last Saturday to Greenwich. Fairfield Ludlowe (6-9-1) is seeded 29th and meets No. 4 Shelton in the first round on Thursday at 6 p.m. The bracket is online.

In volleyball, Warde is seeded No. 21 in Class LL and meets No. 12 Greenwich on Thursday at 4 p.m. Fairfield Ludlowe is seeded 17th and meets No. 16 Mercy at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The winner advances to play top-seeded Darien on Saturday. The complete bracket is available online.
