Fairfield Soaks In Little League Opening Ceremony

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield American Little League All-Stars were treated to more than an hour of fanfare during the opening ceremonies of the New England Regional Tournament held in Bristol on Friday.

The six New England and six Mid-Atlantic teams paraded into the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center, with each squad holding its state championship banner. Little League mascot, Dugout, led the teams into the stadium.

Fairfield's Will Lucas was one of two players to lead his peers in the Little League pledge, while American manager Bill Meury had the co-honor of reciting the Little League parent, coach and volunteer pledge.

Fairfield catcher Biagio Paoletta was one of 12 players to catch the ceremonial first pitches from the 12-member grounds crew, which was honored for its hard work in prepping the field.

Players were greeted with speeches by Regional Director Donald Soucy, Assistant Director Corey Wright and Art Ward, mayor of Bristol.
