FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Rage 14U baseball team took second place this past weekend in the 8th Annual Warwick (R.I.) Summer Slugfest. Fairfield went 4-1 in the tourney, outscoring opponents 20-12.
After being rained out Friday night, Fairfield was forced to play four games over 24 hours. It won three thanks to strong defense and pitching, including a complete-game, 57-pitch gem by Jack Germain that sent Fairfield to the semis. Fairfield lost to Blue Chip baseball in the championship game Sunday night.
Fairfield Rage 14s have qualified for the Sandy Koufax League State Championships. And both Rage 16-year-old teams qualified for the Mickey Mantle League State Championships. Both tournaments begin pool play Thursday.
Fairfield Rage is a summer Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) organization made up of a 13U, 14U and 16U team.
