Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame-Fairfield continue to dominate their competition in their state tournaments. Prep is headed to the quarterfinals in Class LL, and Notre Dame-Fairfield to Class M.
Ninth-seeded Prep handled eighth-ranked Crosby, 86-69, behind a double-double from Terry Tarpey with 21 points and 17 rebounds. The Jesuits (17-5) will get a surprising home game in the quarterfinals thanks to a huge upset by 17th-ranked Xavier over top-seeded Windsor. Notre Dame-Fairfield, meanwhile, topped the century mark, crushing Kaynor Tech, 104-65. The Lancers (22-3) put up a whopping 63 points in the second half behind a 26-point effort by Dan Upchurch. The scoring was evenly distributed for such a dominating game. Arkel Miles put up 17 points, while Naeem Pommills contributed 16.
