FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Olander brothers take center stage Thursday night when Fairfield University meets the University of Connecticut in a mens college basketball game at the XL Center in Hartford. Tipoff is 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on Sportsnet New York (SNY).
Ryan Olander, a senior center, scored 19 points for Fairfield in a 58-52 win over New Hampshire in the Stags last game on Dec. 11. Tyler Olander, a sophomore, leads the Huskies in rebounding with a 6.4 per game average. The brothers are from Mansfield, where they played for E.O. Smith High School.
Fairfield is 7-4 under first-year coach Sydney Johnson. The Stags enter the game on a four-game winning streak. Rakim Sanders leads the team in scoring (16.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.2 rpg).
The Huskies (9-1) are ranked eighth in the latest Associated Press poll. Jeremy Lamb leads UConn with a scoring average of 19.0 ppg.
