The Fairfield Light 97s 14-and-under softball team started its season with a 14-2 victory in a scrimmage Saturday in Ridgefield. The team is ready for its first official games next weekend, when it plays in the First Chance PONY National Qualifying tournament in Suffolk County, N.Y.
Fairfield showed its pitching depth against Ridgefield, allowing the hosts just two hits. Every batter in the Fairfield lineup also contributed at least one hit apiece.
The girls have been practicing every Wednesday night at Tomlinson Middle School and on weekends. They also played in indoor tournaments. In addition to a tournament schedule, the Light compete in the Fairfield County Fastpitch Softball League.
