Fairfield Lacrosse Falls in Conference Title Game

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Loyola of Maryland outscored Fairfield University 4-0 in the third period Friday en route to a 14-7 victory in the Eastern College Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse championship game in Denver.

Norwalk’s John Snellman had two goals for Fairfield, while Brent Adams, also from Fairfield, had a goal and an assist. Snellman was named to the all-tournament team. He had a hat trick in an 8-7 win versus Ohio State in the semifinals.

Fairfiel, ranked No. 16 in the country, is 12-4. It will await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA selection show airs at 9 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU.

Jack Runkel, a sophomore who lives in Fairfield, started in goal for Loyola and made five saves. Darien’s Tyler Foley, Alex Yackery and Justin Shaw are members of Loyola’s team. The Greyhounds will find out their NCAA Tournament seed on the selection show. Sixteen teams play in the tournament. The Final Four will play in Foxborugh, Mass  beginning May 26.
