Scholarship funds are raised through an annual tournament. Since its inception in 1991, this unique tournament has not only provided much-needed funds for the Trumbull-based Kennedy Center, but has also supported a junior golfer scholarship program for young golfers across the state. The tournament was played on Monday, June 23, at Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk.
Each junior golfer is paired with an adult foursome. These female and male junior golfers are selected not only for their golfing abilities, but also for their leadership and academic achievements.
Fred and Fran Ahlbin first introduced this concept of partnering junior golfers with adult golfers, and their legacy continues today through the help of their nieces, Julie Conley and Diane Thompson.
The Ahlbin Junior Golfer Scholarship Awards program has helped over 400 young men and women obtain a college education.
The tournament itself has raised over $500,000 since it began and has enabled The Kennedy Center to continue to provide quality and innovative program services to the individuals with disabilities and special needs.
