Fairfield Giants Pee Wees Win Title Game

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Giants Junior Pee Wee 1 won the Southern Connecticut Bob Boss Championship, beating the Park City Panthers, 19-12.

"This was a heck of a game and a great way to end the season," coach Dave Houghton said. "Every one of the 26 boys on our team played great today. They should all be very proud of themselves. I know I am. They are all Giants. The Panthers came roaring back, and we stood up to the test to win this championship."

Finn Duran, Henry Houghton and Owen Cirilli scored touchdowns for the Giants.

The Giants took a 7-0 lead on Duran’s 3-yard touchdown run. He scored behind the strong blocking of Johnny Blatt, Greg McGowan, James Brown, Jake Simonelli and Eric Pierpont.

Ian Bartlett raced 85 yards to set up Fairfield’s second score. Houghton ran in from 5 yards out as the Giants took a 13-0 lead in the third quarter.

Park City responded with two touchdowns to get within 13-12. Cirilli’s 15-yard touchdown run gave the Giants some breathing room.

The Giants defense, hampered by injuries, had to hold off one more threat by the Panthers. Led by their captain, Blatt, and with only minutes to go, they stopped the Panthers cold and took the trophy.

"Due to injuries we were really thin on defense and had to move some players around. We moved Blatt from linebacker to defensive end. And P.J. Egan, Sam Roberto, Owen Sherman, Pierpont, Houghton, Brown, Cirilli, T.J. Walton, Simonelli and Duran, all those boys really came through for us to close out this game," said Houghton.

"That was a lot of fun. I can't wait for next season," Giants player Nick Tsorvas said.

The Giants' roster includes Charles Reynolds, Brandon Moutinho, James Cirilli, Samuel Roberto, Peter Schwartz, Owen Sherman, Patrick Egan, Johnny Blatt, Philip Pasmeg, Grady Bartlett,  Eric Piermont, Ethan Gilmore, Finn Duran, Sam Palmer, Justin Hathaway, Nicholas Loris, James Brown, Henry Houghton, Nick Tsorvas, Brian Kiremidjian, Jack Ferrio, Jackson Gilmore, Greg McGowan, Jake Simonelli, Thomas Walton, Liam Waldron, Seamus Malloy, Kyle Tursi and Ian Bartlett.
