Fairfield Giants Earn Academic Honors

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Players and cheerleaders in the Fairfield Giants Youth Football and Cheer program were honored for their academic achievement by New England Pop Warner Little Scholars Program.

Only 205 of 1450 applicants are honored at a banquet to be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

Fairfield players who earned first team All-American honors included ninth-grade cheerleader Morgan Galdenzi, sixth-grade football player Jack King and eighth-grade cheerleader Phoebe Russell.

Second-team All-American honors went to seventh-grade football players Kyle Fetch, John Hoey, Harriston Houghton, Stephen Metler and Ryan Sullivan and eighth-grade football player Matt King. Blake Gottlieb, a seventh-grade football player, earned honorable mention.

Several Giants were recognized by the national Pop Warner organization. Second-team All-American scholars included Jack and Matt King, Fetcho, Hoey, Russell and Galdenzi. Honorable mention went to Gottlieb, Houghton, Mettler and Sullivan.
