Fairfield Prep grad Connor Rog and Staples grad Henry Wynne will be racing for the University of Virginia, while Fairfield Warde’s Harry Warnick will race for Villanova University.
The race starts at 1 p.m. at Wabash Family Sports Center and a live webcast will be shown on NCAA.com.
Both teams are coming off strong performances in the regional championships. Virginia, ranked 13th in the nation, won the Southeast title, while Villanova won the Mid-Atlantic title. The Wildcats are ranked fifth.
Rog, a sophomore, was Virginia’s fifth runner in the regional race. He ran 30:57.2 for the 10-kilometer race and finished 27th. Wynne, a sophomore, finished seventh for Virginia and 76th overall in 31:52.3.
Warnick, a sophomore, finished 16th overall and sixth for Villanova in the 10k race, finishing in 30:32. The Wildcats had a tight pack, with its five scoring runners all within 12 seconds. Warnick was one second behind his team’s fifth runner. He earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors with a top 25 finish.
Patrick Corona, a former teammate of Rog's at Fairfield Prep, missed out on qualifying for the NCAA championships but put together a stellar season at Air Force. He finished second in the Mountain West Championships, posting the program's best 8k time in nearly 20 years. He ran 23:41.5 and earned the school's Athlete of the Week honors. Corona was 37th at the Mountain Regional championships, and Air Force did not qualify as a team for the NCAA championships.
