FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The Mid Fairfield Stars under-12 girls hockey team begins play Friday in the New England Regional tournament in Exeter, N.H. The Stars, whose lineup includes girls from throughout Fairfield County, won the state championship and bring a record of 27-11 into Fridays regional opener against New Hampshire.
The Stars won the state championship by going 3-0-1 in the tournament, including a 2-0 win over the Connecticut Polar Bears in the championship game. The Stars also recently won the Girls American League tournament championship with victories over Greenwich and Brewster.
Mid Fairfield is scheduled to play the CT Northern Lights on Saturday, and Vermont on Sunday. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
The Stars are coached by former Wilton High hockey star Ryan Equale. He is assisted by Norwalks Moe Tarrant, who led the Stars 14-and-under team to the national championship last year.
The rest of the roster includes Greenwichs Courtney DeNaut and Courtney Frauen; Dariens Gillis Frechette and Annabel Nottebaum; Fairfields Lauren Hoey, Anna Rasmussen, Courtney Scheetz and Paige Wikman; New Canaans Christina Marciano, Isabella Marciano and Kate Somerby; Westports Kate Paliotta; Stamfords Caroline Silk; New Rochelles Sarah Ince; Milfords Jillian Parsons; and Emma Seitz, of New York.
The top two teams from this weekends tournament advance to the national championship in Marlbourgh, Mass.
