FAIRFIELD, Conn. Another day, another blowout win for the Fairfield American Little League.
Fairfield wrapped up pool play in the Little League New England Regional Tournament in Bristol, Conn., with a 9-2 trouncing of Wellesley, Mass., on Wednesday evening. Matty Clarkin, Fairfield's No. 4 pitcher, hurled a five-hit, complete-game victory to clinch the top seed in Thursday's regional semifinal.
Biagio Paoletta continued to provide the biggest bat in a lineup full of potent offense, driving in six runs in a 3-for-4 effort. Paoletta has racked up 18 RBIs in four regional games.
Chris Meyers homered and Ryan Meury provided three hits for Fairfield.
After two scoreless innings, Paoletta kicked off the scoring for Fairfield with a bases-loaded triple. Massachusetts got a run back in the top of the fourth, but American pulled away with Myers' solo shot and RBIs from Paoletta and Will Lucas.
Now one win away from returning to the regional championship, Fairfield American takes on Vermont champs South Burlington at 1 p.m. Thursday. The winner will face either New Hampshire or Massachusetts in the regional final Saturday.
