FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield American Little League All-Stars finished Section 1 pool play Monday without a loss. They are now just one win away from playing for another state championship.
Fairfield American pounded Shelton National on Monday, 12-2, setting up a rematch against East Haven in the championship game Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Orange. Fairfield beat East Haven, 10-7, in its tournament opener July 20.
Grant Carnemark and Jack Oricoli hit two home runs and Brendan Flynn pitched five strong innings before Brendan Layne got the final three outs for Fairfield. Eddie Schwartz also homered for the Americans, who broke open a 4-0 game with four runs in each of the final two innings.
Fairfield American has outscored opponents 48-19 in going 4-0 in the Section 1 tournament. Last year, Fairfield American reached the Little League World Series.
The Section 1 winner meets the Section 2 champion for the state championship in a best-of-three series beginning Saturday in Prospect. The state champion advances to the New England Regional.
