FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield American Little League All-Stars bounced back from their first loss with a 10-1 win over Maine Monday in a pool-play game at the New England Region of the Little League World Series in Bristol. Fairfield plays its final pool play game Tuesday at 1 p.m. against Rhode Island.
New Hampshire, which beat Fairfield on Sunday, is 3-0. Fairfield, Rhode Island and Massachusetts each have one loss. The top four teams from New England advance to elimination games beginning Thursday.
In Mondays game, Brendan Layne got the victory with relief help from Reed Szemplinski. Connor Lynch went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the offense. Jack Oricoli, Grant Carnemark, Brendan Butcher and Brendan Flynn had two hits apiece. Fairfield smacked 13 hits, including home runs by Oricoli and Carnemark. It was the third home run of the tournament for Oricoli, who is hitting .889.
Fairfield scored four in the first and three in the second to bolt to a 7-1 lead. The Americans knocked out Maine starter Luke Klenda in the first inning after he recorded just two outs and surrendered four runs. Fans can follow Fairfield American on the Little League East Region website.
