FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield American Little League All-Stars dropped a 9-7 decision to New Hampshire Sunday in the Little League East Regional in Bristol, Conn. The Americans are 1-1 in pool play. They meet Maine on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The game against Maine was postponed Saturday by rain.
New Hampshire, from the Goffstown Little League, led 3-1 after two innings and 5-2 after three. Fairfield inched closer with a run in the fourth. Goffstown put the game away with four runs in the fifth. Fairfield scored three in the bottom of the sixth to make it interesting, but Goffstown held on.
Jack Oricoli ripped three hits, scored a run and had an RBI for the Americans. Aidan Kudzy had two hits for Fairfield. Brendan Layne had two RBIs. Through two games, Oricoli is 6-for-6 in the tournament with two home runs. Layne also has hit two home runs.
New Hampshire (2-0) is the only unbeaten team remaining in the New England Region. The top four teams from New England will play elimination games beginning Thursday.
